ETERNAL DEFORMITY (POL)
"A CLOWN IS A SYMBOL OF OPPOSED BEHAVIORS COMPILATION: HE'S SAD AND HAPPY, HE'S GOOD AND BAD. IT FITS PERFECTLY WITH OUR MUSIC, MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE."
When it comes to music (or art in general), originality is the main element bands are thriving for to be successful in this business. Often however, this element is never present. Most of the time, it has been carelessy ommited or overlooked as unimportant; and originality thus becomes a fata morgana, an enigma hidden from our very eyes. Eternal Deformity, however, is on the opposing party. With "Frozen Circus," the band has created a grotesque metal circus, where surprises are lurking within every corner; their music is fresh, original and superb! After reviewing their last album, I had the opportunity to interview vocalist/bassist Przemyslaw "Announcer" Kajnat.
Even though the band has been around for about 15 years, some people (like myself, I have to admit) have never heard of you. Could you please introduce the band?
The band was set up in '93. We're all from Zory, Silesia (the South of Poland). Line-up has been changing many times out of many reasons. Now the band crew is: Aro (g), Smyku (g), Tymek (d), Kilo (k,) Johnny (b), Kofi (v).
In general, we weren't that successful during all those years. We recorded 4 quite good materials but unfortunately we haven't had any serious offers from music labels ' till now.

Eternal Deformity started out as a regular doom metal band but gradually evolved to what it is now: a mix of different styles and elements. How did this change come about?
We don't know. We've never thought about it actually. It came out by itself and we're also surprised a bit with the fact.

How would you describe the music on 'Frozen Circus'?
It's very difficult. I prefer such comparisons to be made by reviewers.

Especially the circus-like melodies are unique! Where did you get the inspiration for writing 'Frozen Circus'? Any bands which were influential? Or perhaps a love for circus or grotesque freak-shows was part of this inspiration?
All of them partially. In fact our lives are some kind of freak-shows. So, our great inspiration was and always will be LIFE. A clown is a symbol of opposed behaviors compilation: he's sad and happy, he's good and bad. It fits perfectly with our music, more than anything else.

I have to say, I love your music a lot! Are you satisfied with the outcome of the new album? How was the reaction so far from the fans and media
Thanks very much. We are very grateful for this opinion. Reactions have been very positive so far from the fans and media (especially in Italy :). We are very proud of our new child 'Frozen Circus'. Finally we recorded something that makes us completely happy and fulfilled. It's a goal that we expected to achieve for a long long time. And now finally our dreams have come true.

Furthermore, the artwork is quite impressive! Whose idea was it?
Iwona "Yv" Drozda is the name of the person who's mainly responsible for that. It's her idea from the beginning to the end. We only supported her with our suggestions. We trust her completely and we give her freedom each time in the process of creation of these sick things.

Will there be a tour in support of the album? Any particular places you would like to visit?
We have a plan to do a tour in Poland. It will probably be in October or November. Perhaps next year we will make a European tour? Who knows?

After 3 albums and a demo, you finally got signed to a label (code666): how did you get in touch with the label? So far, how satisfied are you with them?
It was Code666 who chose us (hahaha). We sent more than 100 copies to the labels all over the world. We got some offers out of which we chose Code666. Musically it appealed to us most of all.

I can think of a handful of Polish bands (as in Vesania, Behemoth, Lux Occulta etc.). But how is the metal scene in Poland? Has it changed since you started out about 15 years ago?
To be honest I was not interested in the Polish metal scene as much as I probably should have been, and the same is true even now... but anyway everybody has heard of bands from Poland, such as Behemoth, Decapitated, Crionics, Yattering, Vesania, Vader. For bands like these with such a good international position there are many more possibilities to improve their skills on stage and in the studio. For underground bands like ED the way forward is a minefield. The main Polish record labels don't care about bands. They only try to figure out how much money they can make and then abandon them. That appears to be the normal procedure and nobody is surprised that many bands have decided to sign contracts with foreign labels, just like we signed a contract with Code666!

Any bands from Poland you feel that deserve more exposure and would recommend?
There are so many bands but among them there's the only one: ETERNAL DEFORMITY
(heheheh)

What will the next step be for Eternal Deformity?
All we want is to promote and make "Frozen Circus" popular as much as possible. We will make a video for "Thor's Message" in April. That's our main target on which we have focused right now.

Thank you so much. I wish you all the luck with your new album! Any last words for our readers?
Thanx very much. I invite all of you to listen to our new album and let's meet at concerts hopefully!
